Apple Prepares New Smart Home Devices Similar To IMac G4

JAKARTA Apple is reportedly developing a new smart home device inspired by the classic design of the iMac G4. This device will come in two versions, namely a version with robotic arms and other versions that have an iMac G4-style basis.

Rumors about Apple's smart home device expansion have been circulating throughout 2024. Previously, it was reported that Apple was working on a smart home device with robotic arms, but now new information has emerged that Apple is also preparing another device with a simpler and more affordable design.

According to a report from the Bloomberg bulletin published on Sunday, the second device will be small in size with a square screen equivalent to two side-by-side iPhones. The screen will be positioned tilted above an integer base, similar to the basic design of the iMac G4. The base is likely to be equipped with speakers and other electronic components.

This device will use a new operating system that supports several iPadOS style apps, allowing users to use them for various needs. However, the main goal is as a smart home control center, so users can easily manage their smart home devices.

This version is expected to be more affordable than a version with robotic arms, which is said to have a larger and more suitable screen for media playback as well as video calling needs. The version with robotic arms is likely to be priced at around $1.000 and is expected not to be released before 2026. Meanwhile, the price information and release schedule for the iMac G4 style version have not been announced.
