Demonstrators Clash With Police On France's Martinic Island

JAKARTA - Protesters who violated the curfew clashed with police on the island of Martinik (Martinique), Caribbean, France.

This incident has been going on for more than a month since demonstrations erupted due to rising cost of living.

Clashes occurred as police tried to clear the roadblocks for protesters, the Martinik government said. The crowd also tried to hijack a truck carrying fuel.

France's foreign regions such as Martinique, Guadeloupe and New Caledonia have been rocked by protests, often by groups complaining that the standard of living is well below the standard of living on the mainland of France.

The Martinik administration said one person arrested by many business actors had warned the protests had a "disaster" impact on the local economy.
