Indonesia International Challenge 2024: Women's Singles Compact

JAKARTA Three Indonesian women's singles who played in the second round of the Indonesia International Challenge 2024 compactly stepped into the quarter-finals of the tournament.

The first ticket was obtained by Mutiara Ayu Puspitasari who stopped Malaysian representatives, Ong Xin Yee, with a score of 21-12 and 23-21 at East Java Expo, Surabaya, on Thursday, October 24, 2024.

The result was Mutiara's second win over Ong Xin Yee after previously taking place in the round of 32 of the BWF World Junior Championships 2022 tournament.

"I have previously met with opponents. So, I already know the characteristics of the opponent. This is my advantage in this match," said Mutiara in a statement from PBSI.

In the last eight, Friday, October 25, 2024, Mutiara will face her country's compatriot, Bilqis Prasista, who stopped Sri Lanka's representative, Ranithma Liyanage.

The meeting of the two country partners made Indonesia automatically have one women's singles semifinal ticket. On paper, Bilqis leads the 1-0 win-loss advantage over his compatriot.

"I think all the opponents in this tournament are not easy. I try to give my best," said Mutiara regarding the match she will play in the quarter-finals.

Another Indonesian women's singles who also reached the quarter-finals were Kyla Legiana Agatha.

The player who was born on August 18, 2003, advanced to the quarter-finals after overthrowing China's Taipei representative, Lee Yu-Hsuan, with a score of 23-21 and 21-15.

Kyla will then meet Thailand's women's singles, Yataweemin Ketklieng, who stopped Malaysia's single journey, Siti Nurshuhaini.

Indonesia actually fielded eight women's singles in this event. However, the majority immediately packed the suitcase in the first half.
