Police Alert 1,270 Personnel To Guard The Demonstration At The Horse Statue

JAKARTA - A total of 1,270 joint officers secured the demonstration of thousands of workers in the Horse Statue Area, Central Jakarta and its surroundings, Thursday, October 24, 2024.

"In order to secure the actions of elements of society and labor actions at the Monas Horse Statue roundabout, the State Palace, and its surroundings, we involved a total of 1,270 joint personnel," said Central Jakarta Metro Police Chief Kombes Police Susatyo Purnomo Condro in Jakarta, Thursday.

The joint personnel are from Polda Metro Jaya, Polres Metro Central Jakarta, TNI, Pemda DKI and related agencies.

They will be placed at a number of points around the Monas Horse Statue roundabout in front of the State Palace.

In addition, security is also carried out to anticipate by preparing a number of personnel to provide security and prevent crowds from entering the State Palace area.

Meanwhile, the closure or diversion of traffic flow around the Monas Horse Statue roundabout and several other locations are situational.

Susatyo said that traffic flow engineering would be implemented to see the development of the dynamics of the situation on the ground.

"If the number of masses is not large, the traffic will be normal as usual. We will see later, if the escalation increases, then the flow will be diverted," said Susatyo.

In addition, Susatyo reminded all personnel involved in security to always act persuasively, not provoking and being provoked, prioritizing negotiations, humane services and maintaining security and safety.

Susatyo also appealed to field coordinators and orators to conduct speeches in a polite manner and not provoke the masses.

"Convey peaceful demonstrations, do not impose will, do not be anarchic and do not damage public facilities. Respect and respect other road users who will cross the Monas Horse Statue roundabout and several other locations," he said.

Furthermore, Susatyo said that none of the personnel involved in the security forces carried weapons and still respected the mass of the action who would express their opinion.

"The personnel do not carry weapons, all orders and control from me as Kapamwil (Head of Regional Security). Respect and respect our brothers who will express their opinions in public with humanism and professionalism," explained Susatyo.

This action is an effort of around 3,000 workers in Jabodetabek (Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, Bekasi) who brought two demands for President Prabowo Subianto's government.

The first demand is to ask for an increase in the 2025 minimum wage by 8-10 percent without Government Regulation Number 51 of 2023.

Second, revoking the Omnibus Law on the Job Creation Law at least the labor cluster and the protection of farmers.

The demonstration is planned to be attended by the masses of the Confederation of Indonesian Workers Unions (KSPI), the Labor Party and other unions.

In addition, today's demonstration is an initial action and will continue in waves on October 25-31, 2024 in each region, precisely at the governor's or mayor's offices in 350 districts/cities and 38 provinces.

If the government does not listen to the demands of this action until a series of wave actions until October 31, the union threatens to carry out a national strike on November 11 or 12.
