Hypnotic Perpetrators With Mode Of Pretending To Be Friends In Kotim Arrested By Police

The Polres of East Kotawaringin Regency (Kotim), Central Kalimantan, arrested the perpetrators of the gendam or hypnosis by pretending to be old acquaintances of the victim.

"This incident became public attention because many people complained to us so that we from the Criminal Investigation Unit conducted an investigation and secured the alleged perpetrator," said Head of Criminal Investigation Unit of the Kotim Police AKP Iyudi Hartanto in Sampit, as reported by Antara, Thursday, October 24.

Iyudi said that this case was revealed starting from a report by a resident with the initials SM (65) who was the victim of the perpetrator with the initials NH (41), on Wednesday, October 19.

The mode used by the perpetrators in carrying out the action is to approach the target and then ask questions and pretend to have known the victim.

The perpetrator then took the victim to a place under the pretext that someone wanted to meet and give money to the victim.

"Furthermore, when he arrived at the location in question, the perpetrator asked the victim to entrust his belongings to the perpetrator, and then the perpetrator fled with the items that were deposited," he said.

That mode is what the perpetrator used to SM. The incident experienced by SM is located on Jalan Rahadi Usman, Mentawa Baru Hulu Village, Mentawa Baru Ketapang District.

At that time the victim headed to Bank BRI with a bag containing valuables and cash to be sent to her child for childbirth costs. Then, the perpetrator who saw the victim as the target immediately approached him using a motorbike and asked him to shake hands.

The perpetrator acted as if he already knew the victim and claimed to be a neighbor from the village.

Then, the perpetrator invited the victim to meet someone called Pak Haji. The perpetrator took the victim to a deserted road and then appointed one of the houses claimed to be the house of the Hajj.

With the reason to be more polite when facing the Hajj, the perpetrator asked the victim to store his belongings in the seat of the perpetrator's motorbike, while the perpetrator admitted that he was told by the hajj to buy a drink and then leave the victim.

"That's the chronology of the case that we revealed this time, besides that we also secured evidence, one of which was in the form of a Yamaha N-max motorcycle used by the perpetrators in the action," explained Iyudi.

Besides motorbikes, the police also secured evidence in the form of a helmet, a t-shirt, training pants, rubber sandals, black bags, two cellphones, 30 banknotes of Rp100 thousand.

Next, one gold necklace 375/8 carat weighing 6.45 grams along with a note, a gold necklace weighing 9 grams and aTAL weighing 3 grams along with a gold note and bracelet weighing 6.9 grams along with a note.

It was also stated that some of the victim's money was used by the perpetrator for personal purposes and bought jewelry which became evidence.

The perpetrator was first arrested for this fraud, but based on the results of the temporary investigation, this action has been carried out at least 14 times in different locations, including Jalan Tjilik Riwut, Jalan Panjaitan, Jalan Tidar 4, Jalan Tidar Baru, Jalan Samekto, Jalan Tartar, and others.

The perpetrators usually target the elderly who according to him are easily influenced. In this regard, the Kotim Police asked people who had been victims of this kind of fraud to report to the local police so that they could carry out the applicable legal process.

As a result of his fraud, the perpetrator was charged with Article 378 of the Criminal Code with a penalty of four years in prison.

"This disclosure is also a form of our commitment, the Kotim Police to follow up on security disturbances in the Kotim area, in line with the tagline of the Kapolda, namely realizing a safe and comfortable Central Kalimantan," said Iyudi.
