No More Crocodiles Entrusted In Cianjur Entrepreneurs, 64 Heads Have Been Evacuated BBKSDA
JAKARTA - The West Java Natural Resources Conservation Center (BBKSDA) has completed the evacuation of 64 estuarine crocodiles in temporary captivity in Sayang Village, Cianjur District. While the other 16 are thought to have died or been eaten by other crocodiles.
Head of KSDA Region 1 Bogor, Diah Qurani, confirmed that there were no crocodiles in the storage location belonging to Cianjur businessmen. Dozens of crocodiles were moved to two breeding locations for the Sukabumi and South Sumatra BKSDA.
"We make sure all the crocodiles deposited in Cianjur have all been evacuated, 16 of them are thought to have died and were eaten by other crocodiles in the captivity pool, so only 64 were evacuated after the pool water was vacated," he said in Cianjur, Wednesday, October 23, confiscated by Antara.
He explained, of the 64 crocodiles that were successfully evacuated, 17 of them died on the way and after arriving at the new captivity, this was due to the size of a crocodile which was quite large and the length of the trip from Cianjur to Ogan Ilir Regency, South Sumatra.
He explained that there are currently 47 crocodiles left, most of which are accommodated at the South Sumatra BKSDA, while dozens of other tail are in the captivity of the Sukabumi BKSDA.
"Currently the captivity in Cianjur is empty, the land owner has buried a captivity pond that previously houses 80 estuarine crocodiles since the last few years," he said.
He added that he was forced to evacuate dozens of crocodiles to South Sumatra because there was no adequate captivity on the island of Java, so the South Sumatra BKSDA proposed to accommodate crocodiles, which on average have a length of more than 5 meters with a age of dozens.
"We hope that the remaining crocodiles can breed and return to live freely in the new captivity. Estuary crocodiles include protected animals and their habitats in large rivers in a number of areas in Indonesia," he said.
