JAKARTA - The Provincial Government (Pemprov) of Jakarta has opened a water transportation route to Kelor Island and Onrust Island to support tourism development in the Thousand Islands.

"We will open new routes that have been many visitors but have not been served by water transportation such as Kelor Island, Bidadari Island, Cipir Island, and Onrust Island. These locations can be reached in approximately 15 minutes from Jakarta," said Head of the Water Transportation Management Unit of the DKI Jakarta Provincial Transportation Agency Anthon R. Parura in Jakarta, Wednesday.

Anthon said the Jakarta Provincial Government has set four travel times to the islands starting at 08.00, 10.00, 12.00, and 14.00 WIB.

"So in the future, we plan to open a new track and travel up to four times a day, so that it will help increase tourism on these islands," he said.

So far, there have been four routes or routes to nine islands in the Thousand Islands, namely Untung Jawa, Tidung, Lancang, Pari, Payung, Pramuka, Kelapa, Panggang, and Sabira islands, which are served by water transportation belonging to the DKI Provincial Government.

These four routes are the first route starting from Muara Angke- Untung Jawa-Langcang-Payung- Tidung. Route 2 is from Muara Angke-Untung Jawa- Pari- Panggang-Pramuka.

Then, route 3 from Muara Angke-Untung Jawa-Pari-Pramuka-Kelapa, and route 4 or outermost island from DKI Jakarta, namely Muara Angke-Kelapa-Sabira.

"From route 1 to 3 it is taken for approximately an hour. Then route 4 or the outermost island from DKI Jakarta is taken for approximately 3 hours. The outermost island is closer to Lampung if on Sabira Island it is only an hour to Lampung," said Anthon.

The Jakarta Provincial Government currently has 18 ships, consisting of 11 ships for passenger transportation with a capacity of 50-80 passengers, then 2 school ships serving inter-island school children, 2 cargo ships, and the remaining 3 working ships.

"By the end of December, we plan to add two ships with a capacity of 80 passengers and there has been a revitalization of ships that have not been running for a long time, there are six ships. The function is that the ship is revitalized as a liaison between islands so that it will make it easier for people to travel," said Anthon.
