Jindi South Jambi Finds 9.45 MMSCFD of Gas
JAKARTA - Special Task Force for Upstream Oil and Gas Business Activities (SKK Migas) and the Jindi South Jambi B Cooperation Contract Contractor (KKKS) have successfully discovered hydrocarbons in the form of gas through exploration re-entry activities and re-entry layer testing at the Bungin-1 exploration well in Bengku Village, Bajubang District, Batanghari Regency, Jambi Province.
The Bungin-1 well exploration re-entry was carried out to test and re-evaluate in the long term (pro long test) the hydrocarbon content found in the main objective in the Pre-tertiary basement formation by re-perforating and adding one new perforation so that gas reserves can be identified.
Head of the Drilling and Well Division Surya Widyantoro said that the Bungin-1 Well (re-entry) was first drilled in 1980 by CPI (Chevron Pacific Indonesia and Gulf Oil International) with a final depth of 10,337 ftMD.
Re-entry was continued by KKKS Jindi South Jambi, then, currently continued with re-testing activities of the layer test in the exploration well using Surface Well Test and Slickline.
"Before testing was carried out, the Bungin-1 Well was opened with a cement plug and a well integrity test with the Bohai Rig # 25 (750 HP) for 63 days," said Surya Widyantoro as quoted on Wednesday, October 23.
According to Surya, based on the results of the re-testing of the layer test, the Bungin-1 well (re-entry) flowed gas of 9.45 million cubic feet of gas per day (MMSCFD) at a choke opening of 48/64 inches.

Status as of October 18, 2024 until today, SKK Migas and KKKS Jindi South Jambi B are still carrying out activities on the well by conducting Pressure Build-Up (PBU) Test or pressure testing on the well and the plan, re-etch activities for layer tests in exploration wells Bungin-1 (re-entry) will still take place for the next 40 days.
Head of Program and Communication Division, Hudi D. Suyodipuro said that this gas discovery is the second discovery that occurred in Southern Sumatra, after the previous oil discovery in Banyu Lencir, Muara Enim, South Sumatra on October 14, 2024.
"Exploration continues to be carried out aggressively so that energy security can be achieved, SKK Migas also continues to encourage the monetization of projects that have been and will be running to be realized soon," said Hudi.
