For The Sake Of Saving Costs, Marriage In Fast Food Restaurants Is Again A Trend Of The Young Generation In China

JAKARTA - Most young couples in China are starting to leave a luxurious wedding ceremony tradition and prefer cheap celebrations at fast food restaurant outlets.

Reported by VOI from the South China Morning Post page on Tuesday, October 22, 2024, traditional Chinese marriage is famous for its luxury. But the younger generation chose a simpler approach to the choice of a wedding venue.

This shift means couples avoid complicated rituals, such as relentless blowing, and eliminating concerns about the weather for outdoor weddings. It also makes the cost of weddings more affordable and is now a trend for couples in China.

Unlike weddings at luxury hotels, which often require large security deposits for places and catering, fast food orders can be made at a minimum cost and number of guests.

In addition, the place provides a casual and young background for the wedding day.

Like at McDonald's, a fast food restaurant that became a popular place for children's birthday parties around the world.

In fact, couples can make wedding wreaths from McNuggets, which add nostalgia and joy to weddings.

A bride named Xiaoyezi from Guangdong province in South China invited about 20 guests to her wedding.

This figure is a very small amount compared to traditional events. They chose to celebrate with dinner at a famous burger restaurant in the US.

"While we were in school, we used to date at McDonald's. Whenever a Hello Kitty toy was released, he would tell me," he told Life Lab.

Xiaoyezi only needs a minimum expenditure of 800 yuan or IDR 1.7 million for food. The entire cost of marriage is less than 2,000 yuan or IDR 4.3 million, including food and decorations.

"More than 20 people sat together at McDonald's, celebrating it with chocolate, not wine, with hamburgers and fries in abundance. We chatted and ate, and after that we played a landing in the playground area, even receiving good hopes from strangers. It was an unforgettable day," Xiaoyezi said.

Another bride, Li Mengmeng, who lives in Shanghai, chose Haidilao for her wedding. She was relieved she didn't have to worry about her guest taste, because this hotspot fits everyone.

"One of my colleagues even humorously said that my wedding invitation was basically a free hotpot," he said.

While some criticized their plans on a big day, the young couple had overcome those concerns. They choose to spend money on things that are more meaningful to them.

After saving more than 100,000 yuan or Rp218 million by having her wedding at McDonald's, Xiaoyezi chose to spend that amount on wedding photos taken in the Aegean Sea, Greece.

Li relocated the funds to renovate his new home.

"The luxury wedding party may look impressive. I'd rather invest my hard earned money by improving my daily life than being the center of attention for just one day," said Li.

Many netizens strongly support the new way to hold wedding parties at hotpots and fast food restaurants.

"It's huge! Every time they go to McDonald's, it's going to be like celebrating their wedding anniversary," said the netizen.

"What young people need is marriage that allows them to express themselves." another netizen continued.
