Yovie Widianto Ensures FESMI Contributes Actively To Voice Musician Struggle For New Government

JAKARTA - Yovie Widianto as the General Chair of the Federation of Indonesian Musician Unions (FESMI) declared his position on the new government led by Prabowo-Gibran as President and Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia for the period 2024-2029.

The 56-year-old musician said that since the 2024 Presidential Election, FESMI has freed its members from choosing without any attachment.

"Basically, the FESMI is indeed all its members are free to choose. When the presidential election process is free to choose anyone without any attachment to any candidate," said Yovie Widianto when met in Pamulang, South Tangerang, Monday, October 21 night.

The election of Prabowo-Gibran, who was sworn in on Sunday, yesterday the day after tomorrow, made the direction of FESMI to be behind the government.

Yovie ensured that his party would actively contribute to fighting for the ideals they have been carrying so far.

"But now that the president has been elected and the president has legalized it, FESMI will try to actively contribute to fighting for the ideals of musician unions throughout Indonesia," said Yovie.

"Of course that's what we will try," he added.

Some of the things that FESMI is fighting for, as Yovie has said on many occasions, include protection and social security for musicians, where FESMI members who are musicians from various circles become BPJS Employment participants.

FESMI also formed a Legal Team for members to consult and facilitate dialogue related to planning and provide a work contract template that can be used as a reference.

This organization also often holds open discussions regarding the Copyright Law, to provide an understanding of the rights of musicians, especially regarding music royalties.
