NASA Will Carry Out Last Mars Simulation Mission On November 1
JAKARTA NASA has formed a new group to undergo the last Mars simulation mission. The group consists of four volunteer crews interested in becoming astronauts for 45 days in the simulation room.
The four crew selected were Obaid Alsuwadi, Kristen Magas, Tiffany Snyder, and Anderson Wilder. The four volunteers will be included in a facility called Human Exploration Research Analog (HERA) at the Johnson Space Center on November 1.
While at HERA, scientists will observe whether crew members can adapt to it as long as it is isolated or confined to the Mars simulation room. These observations also include crew health data and their performance while in a closed environment.
"The four volunteers will carry out scientific research and operational tasks during their simulation missions, including maintaining shrimp, growing vegetables, and 'run' on the surface of Mars using virtual reality," NASA said.

All crew members will conduct 18 health studies for the Human Research Program. This health is related to physiological, behavioral, to psychological crew members. Through this program, researchers will create strategies to assist astronauts in facing obstacles on Mars.
To make the simulation even more real, NASA will delay communication for up to five minutes as the new crew approaches the Martian environment. This is done to find out how astronauts act when dealing with a dead communication situation.
The reason is, in real situations, communication can be cut off for up to 20 minutes. If the four crews had simulated returning to Earth, the crew could have left the 650 square foot facility on December 16.
