Exclusive Darius Sinathrya Takes A Father's Character In Various Emotions

JAKARTA - Entering the age of 40, Darius Sinathrya did not stop challenging himself in acting. This year, his name can be found in a number of films, especially the horror genre. The latest is Sumala directed by Rizal Mantovani.

Darius returns to play a father. This time he became Sujiman, a corn plantation merchant and heir to a family business in Semarang. In the film Sumala, he is said to have experienced an incident and was forced to do heinous things to his son.

Sujiman himself is indeed very harsh as a woman-focused man to continue in that era and his culture is very patriarchal and authoritarian and even tends to say children now have the heart so that when he gets pressure from his family he can't be offspring because he has to continue," Darius Sinathrya told VOI some time ago.

(The role) is very negative but that's humans. Very gray, black and white boundaries are not clear. If you look at Sujiman, why is there a reason for that," he said.

Many have won roles as a father for the umpteenth time, this man who was born on May 21 is challenged to always present something different from his character. Sujiman's character, which is full of firmness and emotion, is considered different from his daily nature.

"Overall, it's very different, that's why I always say that Darius's head, (Sujiman) doesn't make sense. Humans are that old when people say Javanese, compassion, nothing. His heart continues to be strong, but in Sujiman's logic, it makes sense what he goes through. It really makes sense that all the reasons are clear, "explained Darius again.

Furthermore, Darius realized that he always got the role of a father. In fact, he admitted that there was a moment when he felt the typecast in which he was always offered the same role and action. It had made him fixated on the same position without trying to explore his role.

"In the moment leading up to the pandemic in the last 2 years 2017 to 2019, the offers that came were all the same, all of them. "Well, it's like nothing new" and I've had a lot of skips too. Just getting involved in a project that's already rather than not filming. I never regretted what had happened because it was a trip and I believe that every character will find the actor," he recalls.

"enjoying the process and after that it turns out that after the pandemic or at the end of the pandemic, I got the character of the gentlemen but it's different, playing something deeper for me as the actor, keep going until finally there are films and stories and other characters," said Donna Agnesia's husband.

He admitted that in the last three years, he played various characters that made him get out of his comfort zone. He tries to distinguish one character from another as a reinforcement that Darius Sinathrya is always open to new roles.

Earlier this year, Darius played Faris, a husband who dominated and always became suspicious of his wife in the film Session: Kerusukan. Likewise with Sumala who photographed Darius as Sujiman, a patriarchal heir to the family.

"For me, it's quite interesting for the characters. I played from the horror that was broadcast yesterday, the horror that Sumala can see is very different and I'm quite satisfied. I'm happy with what I give in every character. The consistency I achieve, there is an interesting progress after the pandemic," said Darius.

To patent his character, Darius Sinathrya tried to dissect the offer that came to him. He tried to see what he could explore from his character and made it something impressive. In his consistency in his work, he also tried to limit the acting projects he took to balance himself as an actor and as a father in the real world.

"I've never been allergic to any genre and always try to explore. The first horror film that this year actually produced it was already in 2023 because if I was followed by my career in the film world, I only took 1-2 films per year and consistently didn't want too much.," he said.

"If the series project can be auctioned off, but if a film other than the offer comes more selective, the character sometimes has to be milah so that it's not the same or similar, so actually this challenge can be done, but we can't be free like that in Indonesian production," explained the man who had been the presenter of the football event.

"I tried it, it was fun for the project or the one who invited us to get to know us closely but it turned out that sometimes I wasn't happy when I lived it or I didn't run it well. Whatever the reason, the actor said he had no reason. But I'm not allergic to horror films," said the 39-year-old actor.

"Every month I always get offers for horror films, other films too but according to many produced, but not all I accept. Trying to choose and sort out which one I think I can contribute to the maximum," he said.

He said the actor must like character so that we can maximize it with the character. That's one of the things to consider when receiving an offer, "he said again.

Then, how did a Darius Sinathrya choose a film? 'The show fits. Eh, that's the last one!' said Darius with a laugh.

"Usually seeing the stories and characters offered, how can it absorb and maybe I am moved by anything in the form of this director, the player, the PH (production house). Wow, Hitmaker, one of them can be an element so that there is an interest in being involved. Both characters, how challenging, how interesting to play a role in the story because sometimes we imagine that the character can be initiated, but the director doesn't want to mean that, it's only in our imagination that it's important to collaborate with the director," he explained.

"For me sometimes preferences are important but it is more important to fill the foundation with clear reasons and logic than to take a look at the characters we play. It's always interesting if the adaptation of real or trusted events is urban legends and it's in Sumala. Urban legends that are believed to occur even the sajen is still there, the sumala is still there," said Darius.

Ending the three-headed period, Darius Sinathrya felt that the age of the actor had not yet reached the highest level. He still feels that much can be reached and he hopes that it will not stop in the near future.

"I still feel really young. I don't know and I still want to keep learning, explore, and find interesting characters that I can really put up my energy and my mind and soul into character. Hopefully in the future I can come to greet and play," said Darius Sinathrya, closing the conversation that day.
