Economist: Foreign Investors Will Respond Positively If Sri Mulyani Returns To Being Minister Of Finance
JAKARTA - Chief Economist & Head of Research Mirae Asset Sekuritas Rully Arya Wisnubroto said that foreign market players (foreign investors) would respond positively if Sri Mulyani Indrawati was re-appointed as Minister of Finance (Menkeu) in Prabowo Subianto- Gibran Rakabuming Raka's new government cabinet.
In my opinion, it is indeed very positive, especially for investors in Government Securities (SBN). So, if foreign investors want to buy SBN, of course, they will see who the state treasurer is," Rully said in Media Day: October 2024 entitled Fostering Stabilities: Positive Inflation Impact and Safeguarding the Capital Market in Jakarta, quoted from Antara, Thursday, October 17.
He said that there were concerns that the position of finance minister would change, which could affect the attitude of foreign investors towards financial markets in Indonesia, especially to the SBN market.
"I'm worried that if it changes, I'm afraid that foreigners won't want to enter SBN again. And I think other economic ministers are still continuing," said Rully.
If Sri Mulyani remains the minister of finance, according to her, Indonesia's fiscal policy in the next five years will still remain the same as in the previous government period, so that it can give confidence in foreign investors to invest in the Indonesian SBN market.
"He (Sri Mulyani) is now The Best Finance Minister In The World. There is no such thing as Indonesia going there, it is very difficult to find something like that. And moreover, he is known as an honest, clean, and transparent person," said Rully.
On another occasion, Capital Market Economist and Expert Hans Kwee said that market participants responded positively with the possibility of sending Sri Mulyani Indrawati back as Indonesian finance minister.
He continued, foreign investors and domestic investors will respond positively to the appointment in line with their reputation so far.
