Tanker Ship In Nigeria Burns, 147 People Die

JAKARTA - A fuel tanker in Nigeria exploded and caught fire due to spilled gasoline. A total of 147 people died.

Haruna Mairiga, head of the Jigawa state emergency service, said the death toll from the accident was 147 people.

Meanwhile, a spokesman for the local police against Shiisu, Adam, said the tanker was traveling from Kota Kano to Yobe State in the north.

On the way, the driver lost control near the city of Majidia in the Taura local government area, until the ship capsized and spilled fuel.

Adam said the villagers tried to take gasoline from the spill, which caused a fire.

Meanwhile, 50 injured people were taken to a local hospital, in the cities of Ringim and Hadejia.

The accident is one of the worst in recent times in Africa's most populous country, which is battling widespread security threats and a cost of living crisis.
