YouTube Launches New Feature: Miniplayer, Play Speed Settings, And More
JAKARTA YouTube has again presented a number of interesting updates that have previously been piloted over the past few months. These updates include a new miniplayer, a finer turn speed setting, a sleep timer, and a number of other features that are expected to enrich the user's viewing experience.
The YouTube apps on Android and iOS are now presenting a new miniplayer that looks more modern. No longer using the second bar above the bottom bar, the miniplayer now resembles a more flexible picture-in-picture window. Videos will be displayed with the closing button in the corner, while the strips below display a 10 second play/pause and reverse/forward button. Users can also move and enlarge the miniplayer in the app.
In addition, YouTube presents a Sleep Timer feature available to all users (both free and Premium). This timer allows users to schedule when the video will stop playing, with the time option ranging from 10 minutes to 1 hour, or until the end of the video.
Play speed settings also get updates with more intuitive UIs. Users can now set the video play speed in the 0.05x increase using sliders, plus plus plus plus/minus buttons, as well as some speed presets at the bottom.
Playlist Updates and Other Features
Other updates include the ability to create a special playlist thumbnail using your own user image or AI. In addition, collaborative playlists will be present on the main YouTube via a QR link or code on TV. Later, users can also voting on videos in playlists to determine the ranking of existing videos.

YouTube also introduced Award Badges celebrating users' unique achievements on the platform, such as being one of the first paid members on a channel, or successfully completing quizzes correctly.
On YouTube Music, badges can be obtained for users who are the top listeners of their favorite artists or get 'heart' from creators in comments. This feature will be available on the You tab in the next few weeks.
This update adds to the functionality and enriches the user experience on YouTube, making it an increasingly interactive and personal platform.
