Passkey Will Be Distributed To Various Vault Password Platforms And Apps
JAKARTA - FIDO Alliance, an organization that develops digital security standards, has just published specifications that allow passkeys to be smoothly shared between different platforms and password management applications. This step is expected to make it easier for users to securely move their credentials to various services.
Apple first joined the FIDO Alliance in 2020, after other major companies such as Microsoft, Google, and Samsung. Since then, Apple has expanded its support for the FIDO mission in replacing passwords with biometric passkeys.
FIDO has launched what is referred to as a "work draft" of this new specification. This specification allows users to securely move passwords and other credentials when switching to different password manager apps or other platforms.

Passkey itself was developed by FIDO along with several other companies, and was first supported by Apple in macOS Ventura 2022 and iOS 16. With a passkey, users can enter the service using Touch ID or Face ID.
While there is no deadline for input submissions yet, FIDO announced that the latest version of this specification will be released on October 18, 2024. Currently, Apple devices are starting to ask users to use passkeys, and this feature is increasingly supported by apps and services.
