Prosecutors Demand Regent Kuansing 13 Years In Prison In Hotel Project Corruption Case

JAKARTA - The prosecutor demanded that the former Regent of Kuantan Singingi (Kuansing) Sukarmis, a corruption defendant in the construction of the Kuansing Hotel, be sentenced to 13 years and 6 months in prison.

"We demand that the panel of judges sentence Sukarmis to imprisonment for 13 years and 6 months, minus the detention period by ordering the defendant to remain in custody," said Public Prosecutor (JPU) of the Kuansing District Attorney (Kejari) Andre Antonius at the Corruption Court (Tipikor) at the Pekanbaru District Court, Riau Province, Tuesday, October 15, confiscated by Antara.

In this trial, the defendant Sukarmis underwent a trial via video conference from the Class IIB Penitentiary (Lapas) Teluk Kuantan

Andre said that the defendant Sukarmis was found guilty of committing a criminal act of corruption as the primary indictment of Article 2 paragraph 1 in conjunction with Article 18 of Law Number 31 of 1999 concerning the Eradication of Corruption as amended by Law Number 20 of 2001, in conjunction with Article 55 paragraph 1 to one, in conjunction with Article 64 paragraph 1 of the Criminal Code.

In addition to imprisonment, the defendant Sukarmis was required to pay a fine of Rp. 500 million, provided that if it was not paid, the prison sentence was replaced by 3 months. Not only that, the prosecutor also demanded that the defendant Sukarmis pay compensation of more than Rp. 22.5 billion.

"If the replacement money is not paid, no later than a month after the inkrah decision or permanent legal force, the property can be confiscated and auctioned off to cover the replacement money, or if you do not have sufficient assets to pay the replacement money, you will be sentenced to imprisonment for 6 years and 3 months," said the prosecutor.

On this charge, Sukarmis stated that he would file a memorandum of defense or plea. The panel of judges chaired by Jonson Paeancis then postponed the trial with the agenda of reading the defense note on Tuesday, October 22.

This case began when there was an activity to build a Kuansing Hotel whose funds came from the Regional Revenue and Expenditure Budget for Fiscal Year 2013 and 2014.

However, in reality, the construction of this hotel was not completed and based on the results of the audit, it was found that state losses amounted to Rp22,637,294,608.

In this case, previously the panel of judges at the Pekanbaru Corruption Court sentenced two of Sukarmis' subordinates who had been sentenced to 12 years in prison. Both are, Head of Bappeda Kuantan Singingi (Kuansing), Hardi Yakub and Suhasman, former Head of Land for the Kuansing Regency Government in 2009-2016.
