M Herindra's Candidate To Be Head Of BIN, President Jokowi Has Talked To Prabowo

JAKARTA - Presidential Special Staff Coordinator Ari Dwipayana said that President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) had discussed the nomination of Lt. Gen. TNI (Ret.) Muhammad Herindra as Head of the State Intelligence Agency (BIN) with the elected president Prabowo Subianto.

This statement relates to the submission of Presidential Letter (Surpres) Number R-51 dated October 10, 2024 regarding the Application for Consideration of Dismissal and Appointment of Head of BIN to the Chairman of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Puan Maharani.

"Regarding the process of dismissal and nomination of the Head of BIN, it has been discussed or discussed with the elected president," Ari said in a written message received in Jakarta, Tuesday.

Presidential Surpres Number R-51 dated October 10, 2024, which was signed by President Joko Widodo, refers to the provisions of Article 36 paragraph 1 and paragraph 2 of Law Number 17 of 2011 concerning State Intelligence.

The provisions in the article regulate that the Head of BIN is appointed and dismissed by the President after receiving consideration from the House of Representatives of the Republic of Indonesia (DPR RI).

In this provision, it is also written that to appoint the Head of BIN, the President proposed one candidate to get the consideration of the House of Representatives of the Republic of Indonesia.

"According to the provisions above and in the context of refreshment the organization, we hereby convey the Candidate for Head of BIN on behalf of Muhammad Herindra to replace Budi Gunawan, in order to get the consideration of the DPR RI, which will then determine his dismissal and appointment with a Presidential Decree," reads the Surpres No. R-51.

Ari also emphasized that the President has the authority to appoint and dismiss the Head of BIN after receiving consideration from the DPR RI.

After submitting the letter to the Chairman of the Indonesian House of Representatives, the nomination process for the Head of BIN will then become the domain of the DPR.

Based on the information gathered, Herindra, who currently serves as Deputy Minister of Defense (Wamenhan) of the Republic of Indonesia, will take the fit and proper test by a team of considerations in the appointment and dismissal of the Head of BIN at the DPR RI on Wednesday, October 16.
