JAKARTA - The Provincial National Narcotics Agency (BNNP) of East Kalimantan (Kaltim) destroyed evidence of marijuana-type narcotics weighing approximately four kilograms and 1.1 kilograms (kg) of crystal methamphetamine.

"BNNP Kaltim is committed to continuing to eradicate illicit narcotics trafficking in the East Kalimantan region," said Head of the East Kalimantan BNNP Eradication and Intelligence Division Kombes Pol Tejo Yuantoro in Samarinda, Tuesday, October 15.

The destruction was the result of the disclosure of a number of cases of illicit narcotics trafficking in the East Kalimantan region during the August-September 2024 period.

Tejo explained that the disclosure of this case was the result of the collaboration between the East Kalimantan BNNP and the district/city level BNN.

On August 30, 2024, he said, two suspects were arrested in West Kutai with evidence of 116 packages of methamphetamine weighing 41.02 grams and six packages of methamphetamine weighing 0.72 grams.

Furthermore, on September 12, 2024, the East Kalimantan BNNP thwarted the smuggling of 1,998 grams of marijuana from North Sumatra through an expedition service in Balikpapan.

On the same day, a suspect in Samarinda was arrested for ordering marijuana weighing 1,981 grams through social media from Medan. Then, on October 4, 2024, two suspects were arrested in Samboja and Balikpapan with evidence of shabu-shabu weighing 64.49 grams.

Finally, on October 3, 2024, a suspect in Samarinda was arrested with evidence of 1.021 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine.

The modus operandi used by the perpetrators varies, ranging from a tracking system, utilizing expedition services, to ordering via social media.

"The suspects were charged with Articles 114 and 112 of Law Number 35 of 2009 concerning Narcotics with a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison," said Tejo.

The destruction of evidence of marijuana-type narcotics was carried out by burning it in the yard of the East Kalimantan BNNP office. Meanwhile, evidence of the type of crystal methamphetamine was destroyed by being blended.

Tejo added that the East Kalimantan BNNP will continue to try to uncover the narcotics illicit trafficking network in East Kalimantan and invite the public to actively provide information related to narcotics trafficking.
