IPhone 16 Still Detained TKDN, When To Launch In Indonesia? This Is What Apple Says

JAKARTA - Until now the iPhone 16 has not appeared in Indonesia. According to the Minister of Industry (Menperin) Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita, this is because Apple is still in the process of managing the Domestic Component Level (TKDN).

Responding to the issue, Apple told several media that it is committed and very enthusiastic to immediately present their newest products, including a series of iPhone 16 for customers in the country.

"We are proud to have made significant investments and continue to grow, which we provide to support entrepreneurs, creators, and an enthusiastic development ecosystem throughout Indonesia," quoted Monday, October 14.

Meanwhile, Minister of Communication and Information Budi Arie Setiadi also could not comment more on when the iPhone would come to Indonesia. Because according to him, this is regulated by the Ministry of Industry.

However, based on VOI's monitoring, Apple's newest products including the iPhone 16 still have not appeared on the official TKDN website. And Agus said the validity period of Apple's TKDN certificate had expired so it had to be extended.

The regulations are regulated in the Regulation of the Minister of Industry (Permenperin) Number 29 of 2017 concerning Provisions and Procedures for Calculating the Value of TKDN for Cellular Phone Products, Handheld Computers and Tablet Computers. Agus said the government provided flexibility through three schemes to fulfill TKDN.

Because based on the applicable Kominfo rules, Apple must meet the 40 percent TKDN requirements to bring the iPhone 16 to Indonesia, and it can be done through three schemes, one of which is through manufacturing.

Meanwhile, Budi at the JST1 Grand Opening event a few days ago said that Indonesia did not accept Apple to build its manufacturing in Indonesia, due to problems with demand for tax holidays.

"For neighboring countries, it's a 50-year tax holiday, then land free tax. The origin of the employees is 200 thousand people. Can we not fight it? We can't definitely fight it. We don't want it, he's too jor-joran in providing incentives," said Budi.
