Government Encourages Indonesia's Game Industry, Targets To Become A Center For Southeast Asian Games

JAKARTA - In the Indonesia Game Developer Exchange (IGDX) Conference 2024, the Director General of Informatics Applications at the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology, Hokky Situngkir, admitted that he was optimistic about the future of the game industry in Indonesia.

Hokky said that Indonesia is one of the largest game markets in Southeast Asia. With more than 150 million gamers, in 2023, the Indonesian game industry generates more than US$1.6 billion in revenue.

"With more than 150 million gamers, Indonesia is one of the largest game markets in Southeast Asia. In the future, we want to position Indonesia as a game center in Southeast Asia, a place where talent is nurtured, creativity is celebrated, and opportunities are abundant," Hokky said in his official broadcast quoted Monday, October 14.

At the event, Hokky also encouraged all game platforms to be registered with Electronic System Operators (PSE) to create a secure and transparent digital ecosystem.

According to him, this step is important to ensure a digital space that is friendly to everyone, especially children. Because digital games are considered to be able to open up the world of creativity and learning for millions of children in Indonesia.

At the same time, Director General Hokky Situngkir emphasized the welfare and security of the youngest gamers. "And it depends on all of us to ensure that this space remains safe and protected," he said.

The 2024 IGDX Conference was attended by more than 200 game companies and representatives from 19 countries who attended, and made it a forum for game developers, publishers, and investors to exchange ideas, form partnerships, and strengthen collaboration.
