China Conducts Military Exercises Near Taiwan, US Expresses Concern to Allies
JAKARTA - The United States (US) has conveyed its concerns to allies regarding China's military exercises near the Taiwan border.
US State Department Spokesperson Matthew Miller said that his party continues to coordinate with allies and regional partners regarding the military exercises.
"The United States is deeply concerned about the joint military exercises of the People's Liberation Army [PRC/China] in the Taiwan Strait and around Taiwan," Miller said, quoted from TASS, Monday, October 14.
The US has asked China to refrain from further potential friction that could undermine stability in the Taiwan Strait and beyond.
"Which is important for regional peace and prosperity and is a matter of international concern," he said.
"We continue to monitor the PRC's activities and coordinate with allies and partners regarding our shared concerns," Miller continued.
Miller emphasized that the US is committed to the long-standing One China policy. "Which is guided by the Taiwan Relations Act, the three Joint Communiqués, and the Six Assurances," he added.
