9 People Examined Regarding The Speedboat Burn Case That Killed North Maluku Cagub Benny Laos

The North Maluku Regional Police and the Taliabu Island Police Satreskrim have examined nine witnesses in the case of a speedboat that resulted in six deaths, including North Maluku gubernatorial candidate Benny Laos.

"For the handling of the burning speedboat, the group of North Maluku cagub Benny Laos was carrying during a campaign on Taliabu Island by taking steps to secure the crime scene through the installation of a police line, examination of witnesses at the crime scene and it was recorded that nine people had undergone examination," said Director of General Criminal Investigation at the North Maluku Police, Kombes Asri Effendy during a press conference on the handling of the case of the burning of the North Maluku cagub on Taliabu Island, Antara, Sunday, October 13.

In addition, for the handling of this case, said Asri, the police also conducted interviews with other witnesses.

North Maluku Police Ditreskrimum personnel were deployed to Taliabu to assist police personnel in the examination and assistance of the duties of the Taliabu Satreskrim.

Asri, who was accompanied by the Head of Public Relations of the North Maluku Regional Police, Kombes Bambang Suharyono, stated that the National Police had also dispatched three Puslabfor personnel, three people from the North Sulawesi Regional Police Laboratory and expert statements regarding the cause of the fire.

"The North Maluku Police want to conduct a quick, transparent and maximum investigation to obtain witness statements and electronic evidence in order to reveal the facts in the case behind the burning of the Bella 72 speedboat," he said.

Meanwhile, the Head of Public Relations of the North Maluku Police, Kombes Bambang Suharyono, appealed to the entire community to remain calm regarding this incident and hand over the handling of the case to the police.

He also hopes for community support so that the security and security situation at the regional election campaign stage takes place conducively. Bambang asked residents to be patient and not to make speculation that could damage the values of unity that have been maintained so far.

On that occasion, the Head of Public Relations also said that his party had provided helicopter facilities from the National Police Headquarters by assisting in the evacuation of the body of North Maluku cagub Benny Laos from Taliabu to Bobong, then taken to Jakarta by charter plane.

The Head of Public Relations added that six victims died in the incident, each of which two victims who died were taken to the Sula Islands, namely Ester Tantry (a member of the North Maluku Provincial DPRD) and a member of the National Police guarding the head of the Sula Islands cabup, Bripka Hamdani Boamonabot.

Two other victims, the chairman of the North Maluku United Development Party (PPP) DPW, Mubin A. Wahid and Nasrun, their bodies were taken to Ternate City, one victim Mahsudin Ode Muisi whose body had been taken by a family in Taliabu, and Benny Laos' body was dispatched to Jakarta for burial.

As for data on minor injuries undergoing treatment at the RSUD as many as 10 people, namely Sherly Tjoanda, Hendrata Thes, Amir, Ajam, Irsan, Sance, Dian Jurak, Faisal, Susianto, and Mariana Meskopa.
