2 Lebanese Soldiers Died When Israel Attacked Military Posts

JAKARTA - Two Lebanese soldiers were killed and three others injured in Israeli attacks on military posts in southern Lebanon.

The incident adds to the number of Lebanese soldiers killed while on duty to five, plus 16 people killed while off duty, security sources told Reuters. There has been no immediate comment from Israel on the latest report.

Lebanese interim Prime Minister Najib Mikati condemned the killing.

"Israel's persistent crimes against Lebanon today do not waste the brave soldiers who carry out their national duties in protecting land and defending the people," he said.

The conflict between Israel and Hezbollah erupted one year ago when an Iranian-backed group began launching rockets into northern Israel in support of Hamas, the Palestinian organization that controls the Gaza Strip.

Lebanese soldiers have historically avoided conflict between Hezbollah and Israel, and focused on maintaining order in Lebanon.
