Israel Attacks Lebanese UNIFIL Headquarters Again, Injuring Army From Sri Lanka

JAKARTA - The Israeli army has launched another attack on the headquarters of the UN Temporary Forces in Lebanon (UNIFIL) in southern Lebanon, and injured several peacekeepers from Sri Lanka on duty.

As reported by ANTARA from Anadolu, the Lebanese national news agency, Israel's Merkava tank targeted a UNIFIL control tower on the main road linking Tyre to Naqura, ahead of the Lebanese Army checkpoint, and injuring the Sri Lankan contingent.

It said the Israeli army tank fired a cannon bullet that hit the main entrance of the UNIFIL command center in Naqura, causing damage at the site, Friday, October 11.

The UNIFIL command center in Naqura has been targeted by Israeli artillery forces for the second time in three days.

On Thursday, the UN peacekeeping force said that UNIFIL's headquarters in Naqura and its troop positions were repeatedly fired upon by Israeli forces, wounding two of its members.

The situation at the location remains tense as UNIFIL operates in a challenging environment amid ongoing military action in the region.

Israel launched a massive airstrike in Lebanon under the pretext of targeting Hezbollah since September 23, killing at least 1,351 people, injuring more than 3,800 others, and displaced more than 1.2 million people.

The airstrikes have been an escalation of a year-long cross-border war between Israel and Hezbollah since the start of its attack on the Gaza Strip, in which Israel has killed more than 42,000 people, most of whom are women and children, since last year's Hamas attack.

Despite the Middle East's international warnings of being on the verge of a regional war amid Israel's intense attacks on Gaza and Lebanon, Israel continued to expand its conflict by launching a ground attack on southern Lebanon on October 1.
