Forced To Present Third Party Application Stores, Google Files An Appeal

JAKARTA Judge James Donato, in the Epic Games vs. Google case, made the decision that Google should allow third-party app stores on the Google Play Store. This decision was also responded with rejection.

On Friday, October 11, Google made an official notification that it would appeal the ruling. According to Google, Judge Donato's decision could cause harm to consumers, developers, and device makers in the US.

"We are filing an appeal against the underlying decision and we will ask the court to temporarily suspend the changes Epic requested, pending the appeal," said Google Regulatory Vice President Lee Anne Mulholland recently.

Mulholland also explained that Donato's decision would endanger Android users. In addition, the presence of third-party applications will make it increasingly difficult for developers to promote their applications.

"As we have stated, this change will jeopardize consumer privacy and security," Mulholland explained. "In the end, although this change may satisfy Epic, this change will lead to various unwanted consequences."

Mulholland had given a little leak about the content of the appeal Google was going to file. The company will show that Android is not a big marketplace that monopolizes as Android is trying to compete with iOS.

In addition, Google's appeal will explain that Android is not a closed platform. Developers have many ways to distribute their apps. There are app stores like Samsung's Galaxy Store or sideloading systems through official websites.
