BYD Opens Opportunities To Present PHEV In Indonesia, Wait For Demand And Regulatory Support
JAKARTA The leading automotive manufacturer from China, BYD, is known for it has the number one position in the world in the environmentally friendly vehicle market with various New Energy Vehicle (NEV) models, from Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) and Plug-In Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV).
Currently, BYD is focusing on marketing pure electric vehicles (BEV) in Indonesia. However, the opportunity to bring the PHEV model is also open, depending on the growing market demand.
This was conveyed by Luther Panjaitan, Head of Marketing & Communication of PT BYD Motor Indonesia.
"BYD is ready with EV technology, both BEV and PHEV. Globally, we have a complete line-up," Luther said when met in Bekasi recently.

Luther explained that BYD had conducted a comprehensive study of the choice of products that would enter the Indonesian market. However, the decision will depend heavily on supporting regulations, so that PHEV vehicles can compete at competitive prices.
"If there is no supporting regulation, PHEV will be treated like an ordinary CBU imported car, so the price is not competitive," he added.
In China, Luther revealed that the prices of PHEV and BEV are almost comparable, so there is no longer any reason not to switch to electric vehicles. He also hopes that the Indonesian government will immediately issue a regulation that makes it easier for PHEV to enter the country's market.
"PHEV can be considered as an electric vehicle equipped with a gasoline engine to extend the distance," he concluded.
