Harli Siregar Expresses AGO's Achievement In Dismantling Big-Fish Corruption Cases

JAKARTA - Eddy Wijaya conducted interviews with a number of interesting topics with the Head of the Legal Information Center (Kapuspenkum) of the Indonesian Attorney General's Office (Kejagung), Dr. Harli Siregar, SH., M. Hum in the EdShareOn program, Eddy Sharing and Discussion. One of the topics is the courage of the Attorney General's Office in uncovering the "big-fish" corruption case.

Under the leadership of the Head of the Attorney General's Office, ST Burhanuddin, Jampidsus managed to uncover a number of mega-corruption cases that cost the state hundreds of trillions of rupiah. The cases that are still warm are reported to be corruption at PT. Timah Tbk which cost the state Rp300 trillion and the alleged case of money laundering (TPPU) PT. Duta Palma Group with confiscated cash reached Rp822 billion.

The Attorney General's Office released state losses in the TPPU case related to palm oil business activities by PT. Duta Palma Group reached Rp 100 trillion. Harli Siregar explained, this is a form of the AGO's commitment to its role in enforcing the law on corruption cases. "The first is our institutional commitment under the leadership of the Attorney General, Pak Burhanuddin, which is stronger and more solid. If there is no solidity, I think whatever we want to plan will not work," said Harli Siregar in the EdShareOn program, Eddy Sharing and Discussion.

Harli gave an example, in the alleged TPPU case, PT. Duta Palma Group, the commitment of Jampidsus investigators to investigate the case was very large. So that it can uncover the PT. Duta Palma Group case which cost the state Rp 100 trillion. By confiscating a total of Rp 822 billion, it is an achievement for Jampidsus. Because tracing the cash is not easy compared to investigating transactions based on banking records. "That is the commitment of investigators in the ranks of Jampidsus who they show their dedication because it is not easy," said Harli Siregar.

Not only is it a strong commitment to preventing and enforcing the law in corruption cases, Harli Siregar also said that courage was not easy to do. This is what news emerged when handling the corruption case of PT. Timah Tbk, Deputy Attorney General for Special Crimes (Jampidsus) at the AGO, Febrie Ardiansyah was followed by members of the Special Detachment (Densus) 88 Anti-terror Police.

However, Harli stated that the term stalking was only part of public perception. The Prosecutor's Office, continued Harli, is still trying to thoroughly investigate the case. "What we are experiencing is not what the public perceives," he said. "We don't want to say, oh, yes, it's true that we were followed. Everything passed away to prove and law enforcement continued," Harli added.

The AGO is also said to be targeting other major corruption cases. However, Harli Siregar did not want to reveal it.

Public Trust In AGO Is Higher Than The KPK

In mid-April 2024, the Indonesian Survey Institute (LSI) noted that the level of public trust in the Attorney General's Office increased by 74.7 percent, while the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) was at 62.1 percent.

The increase in public trust cannot be separated from the role of Jampidsus who dared to investigate the "big-fish" corruption case. This is certainly inversely proportional to the KPK, which since its founding has full authority to enforce the law in corruption cases. A number of legal observers argue that this is due to the weakening of the KPK through the revision of the KPK Law. So what is Harli Siregar's response?

"Previously I would like to thank the public for my appreciation. My question is back, then the prosecutor's law which has been still that but why is it considered stronger even though maybe the authority of the KPK is stronger?", said Harli.

"Going back to the institution itself, each institution has the authority, so it depends on the person," he added.

The desire of Harli Siregar to make changes at the KPK made him register as a KPK Capim. However, he failed to enter the top 10 KPK Capim selections. KPK performance is getting further and further away from expectations, there are disharmists between leaders, and there are also leaders who have problems with the law. This is a fact. How the KPK builds collaboration internally and other law enforcement institutions is also getting further. In my opinion (the selection of candidates) is a moment, maybe it can take part there (KPK), that's why I participated in this contestation," said Harli.
