Refusing To Call US Vice President, Florida Governor Sindir Kamal Harris Not Contributing To Disasters

JAKARTA - Florida Governor Ron Desantis refused to receive a phone call with United States (US) Vice President Kamala Harris regarding coordination in handling the impact of the Helene storm.

Sources quoted by ABC News said DeSantis' team considered phone calls part of a political motive.

In addition, DeSantis staff also said the governor had not spoken to President Joe Biden in recent days.

Some time later, DeSantis admitted that he did not realize that the vice president had contacted him.

"No, I didn't know he called me. I saw (the report), but I didn't realize it," said DeSantis.

In response to this issue, Kamala Harris called the governor of Florida very selfish and played a political game during the crisis.

"People really need today's support and play a political game with this moment, in this crisis situation, this is the culmination of an emergency situation, this is completely irresponsible and selfish," Harris said, Monday, October 7 afternoon local time.

Recently, the Governor of Florida coordinated with Federal Emergency Management Agency Administrator Deanne Criswell on Sunday and ensured federal officials continued to work on preparing for the handling of the Milton storm.

But Governor DeSantis also quipped Kamala Harris back. The Vice President of the US is considered to have no contribution.

"He has no role in this. In fact, he has been vice president for three and a half years. I have faced a number of storms under this government. He has never contributed anything to this endeavor," he said.
