China Open 2024: Muchova Qualified For Final After Beating Olympic Gold Winners

JAKARTA - Tennis player from the Czech Republic, Karolina Muchova, advanced to the final round of the 2024 China Open after beating the seed host Zheng Qiwen.

The world's 49th place locked the ticket to the final round after winning two straight sets 6-3 and 6-4 over the Paris 2024 Olympic gold medalist in one hour 47 minutes on Saturday, October 5 evening WIB.

This is Muchova's second straight win over tennis player in the top 10 this week. Previously, he had already stopped first seed Aryna Sabalenka in the quarter-finals on Friday, October 4.

"I'm happy to be able to perform well against these top players and show my best game. I can face them and beat them," Muchova said.

This result made Muchova, who is winning 2-1 wins with Zheng, avenge his defeat in the Palermo final this summer.

This is the second WTA 1000 final in Muchova's career after previously becoming runner-up in Cincinnati last year. Furthermore, Muchova will meet the United States player, Coco Gauff, who repatriated Spaniard Paula Badosa.

The duel between Gauff and Muchova was a repeat match of the Cincinnati final in 2023. At that time, Gauff made 6-3 and 6-4 wins over Muchova to claim the title.

A few weeks later, Gauff stepped up his 2-0 win-loss streak over Muchova after he won in the semifinals of the US Open 2023 on his way to his first Grand Slam title in his career.
