China Open 2024: Zheng Qiwen Reaches First Semifinals At WTA 1000
JAKARTA The fifth seed Zheng Qinwen managed to reach the semifinals of the China Open 2024. This is his first semifinal in the WTA 1000 level tournament.
The host's champion got a ticket after defeating his 17-year-old opponent, Mirra Andreeva, with 5-7, 6-0, and 6-4, on Friday, October 4, 2024 evening WIB.
The Paris 2024 Olympic gold medalist was forced to rise from defeat in the first set to maintain his first chance of becoming a champion in Beijing.
"I'm happy to be in the semifinals. There are many joys and sorrows. I'm glad they support me. I feel that if it's not at the China Open, this match could be more difficult than that," Zheng said after the match was reported by the WTA website.

This is the fourth semifinal that Zheng has achieved this season. In addition, he has also won 20 of 22 matches since being eliminated in the first round of Wimbledon.
The 21-year-old is Beijing's first semifinalist since Wang Qiang in 2018.
Zheng will remain the leading player to win in his homeland. He has also never lost to a player who is outside the top 20 in a tournament in China, with a 9-0 record.
Next Zheng will meet US Open 2024 semifinalist Karolina Muchova. This is the Palermo final's rematch this year which Zheng won.
