Israeli Military Destroys Underground Tunnel To Prevent Arms Smuggling Into Lebanon

JAKARTA - The Israeli military destroyed an underground tunnel on the Lebanese-Syria border to prevent arms smuggling into Lebanese territory.

Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) said the tunnel operation was led by Unit 4400, the unit responsible for the transport of weapons from Iran and its projection to Hezbollah in Lebanon.

"Infrastructure locations adjacent to the Masnaa border between Syria and Lebanon were attacked last night," the IDF said.

Israeli airstrikes near the main Lebanese-Suriah border halted traffic in both directions, a Lebanese official said on Friday.

Thursday night's attack destroyed the road to Masnaa's intersection with Syria, Public Works Minister Ali Hamie told CNN. The checkpoint was destroyed.

Masnaa's border intersection is located in the Beqaa valley on the Beirut-Damaskus international highway, which is the main transportation route for people and goods between the two countries.

The highway has been used by tens of thousands of people to avoid Israeli bombings in recent days.
