Pertamina Hulu Energi Finds Gas Resources In Sulawesi

PT Pertamina Hulu Energi through PT Pertamina EP Cepu found the potential for oil and gas resources in the Tedong (TDG)-001 well in the Mamosalato District, North Morowali Regency - Central Sulawesi.

This was conveyed by the Director of PHE Exploration, Muharram Jaya Panguriseng, during a field review to the Tedong (TDG)-001 well area, Friday, October 4.

Muharram explained that the Tedong well (TDG)-001 drilling is a series of drilling in the frontier area as well as economic development in the Eastern Indonesia region after previously drilling was carried out at the East Wolai (EWO)-001 well, West Wolai (WWO)-001, and Julang Emas (JLE)-001.

"This exploration thickening is to prove the potential of oil and gas resources from Batugamping for the Minahaki and Tomori Formations," he said, Friday, October 4.

He further explained that this vertically drilled well has a depth of 2,448 meters MD and after the layer content flow test, it is proven to have a hydrocarbon column thickness of 163 meters, a rate of 15 million cubic feet per day (mmscfd) of 185 barrel condensates per day (bcpd).

Muharram explained that it is hoped that these findings can increase energy supply within a minimum period of 15-20 years to support industrial needs in the region and are expected to resemble Donggi in the future.

"This is in line with exploration strategies to be more aggressive, especially in eastern Indonesia, which still has promising potential and contributes significantly to the resilience of national energy and Sulawesi in particular," explained Muharram.

On this occasion, Deputy President Director of PT Pertamina (Persero), Wiko Migantoro, said that Pertamina paid major attention to domestic exploration activities with an investment allocation of 390 million US dollars in 2024, including a disclosure of the shoot that could make Sulawesi a cluster of domestic gas industry as is the case in East Kalimantan.

"We are proud of the achievement of Upstream Subholding which is the pioneer in developing a new domestic gas cluster in Sulawesi and continues to prove its commitment to increasing the availability of clean energy supply in all corners of the country," concluded Wiko.

Pertamina also managed to get 3 new exploration blocks in 2023 and will increase this year. In the Sulawesi area, Pertamina manages gas production of 664 million cubic feet (mmscfd), determines the Exploration Status (PSE) of the Mora-Wolai structure and now the promising Tedong disclosure for further development.
