Indonesian Logistics Costs Are Expensive, Pelindo Says Can't Compare It To Singapore

JAKARTA - Indonesia's logistics costs are still the government's homework (PR). This is because Indonesia's logistics costs are very high. In fact, it is said to be the most expensive in ASEAN.

Responding to this, Pelindo's Group Head Corporate Transformation & Management Program, Mona Yudika said that when discussing the high cost of logistics and comparing it with other countries, it needs to be seen from various aspects.

According to Mona, Indonesia is different from neighboring countries such as Singapore and Malaysia. He said the port in Singapore is a port of transipulation. Where the ships only stop by for loading and unloading.

Labuhan Singapura itu transhipment. Artinya apa? Mereka berhenti, pembongan loading diperdahkan ke kapal kecil. Kemudian, pergi lagi, katanya dalam acara Penguatan BUMN Menuju Indonesia Emas bertajuk Smart Supply Chain: Digitalisasi Sistem Logistik Indonesia, di Sarinah, Jakarta, Rabu, 2 Oktober.

Meanwhile, continued Mona, the port in Indonesia is a gateway. Where the port serves the loading and unloading of its goods originating from the industry.

"We are an archipelagic country. We are an importer exporter. So the goods are directly sent to users of goods or goods senders," he explained.

Therefore, according to Mona, to compare Indonesia's logistics costs with other countries, caution is needed and needs to be seen from various aspects.

"If in Singapore it's like stopping by, if we want to compare in terms of logistics costs, we have to be careful," he said.

Pelindo, continued Mona, contributed to the decrease in port stay or parking time of ships in ports.

According to Mona, the acceleration of the ship's parking time has had a double impact.

For example, said Mona, Pelindo managed to cut the parking time of the ship at Sorong Port, which was previously three days to one day.

"Imagine, for example, one ship is chartered or the rental fee is, for example, we analogize one ship to Rp. 2 billion per day. Imagine we reduce from three days to one day, how much efficiency can be done is from the service user side," he said.
