World War Artillery Explodes, Japan's Miyazaki Airport Closed

JAKARTA - The Japanese Army bomb disposal team is investigating the explosion that occurred in the Miyazaki Airport area, southwest of the country.

KyodoNews reported that the airport runway was closed following an explosion that occurred on the highway or a connecting route between the runway and the plane's parking area, although there were no reports of injuries in the incident.

Reported by ANTARA from Anadolu, Wednesday, October 2, the explosion was allegedly caused by artillery from the former World War II belonging to the United States (US) which did not explode and is often found in the area.

All flights to and from Miyazaki Airport were suspended due to explosions and runway closures.

Local officials found a ditaxiway hole with a diameter of seven meters and a depth of one meter.
