President Jokowi Orders The Acceleration Of Indonesian Citizens From Lebanon

JAKARTA - President Joko Widodo ordered the evacuation process for Indonesian citizens in Lebanon to be carried out immediately.

The President said he had ordered Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi to discuss the evacuation process of the Indonesian citizen.

The Head of State emphasized that the protection and safety of Indonesian citizens in Lebanon must be unified.

"Ministry of Foreign Affairs, I have ordered the Minister to follow up on what I have conveyed so that the safety of protection for our citizens is number one and the evacuation is rushed," said President Jokowi as quoted by ANTARA, Wednesday, October 2.

Indonesia through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Kemenlu) urges all parties to be able to exercise restraint regarding the latest, very worrying situation that is happening in the Middle East.

The statement comes after Israel carried out ground attacks on Lebanon on Tuesday (1/10) and Iran launched hundreds of missiles into Israel on the same day.

According to Spokesperson II of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Rolliansyah Soemirat, Indonesia emphasized the importance of the United Nations Security Council (UN) to hold a special meeting to discuss the latest developments in the Middle East and make decisions that can reduce tensions in the region.

"Indonesia is very worried that a greater scale of war could occur," Rolliansyah said via text message.

Earlier, on Tuesday (1/10) morning, Israel carried out a ground attack on Lebanon after carrying out a massive air strike since September 23, 2024, which killed about a thousand people and injured more than 2,700 others.

On the same day, Iran also launched hundreds of ballistic missiles into Israel in retaliation for the death of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah, Palestinian Struggle group political leader Hamas, Ismail Haniyeh and senior commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Abbas Nilforoushan.
