Junior Wushu Athletes Are Given A Bonus Of IDR 710 Million

JAKARTA Young Indonesian wushu athletes who have just achieved achievements as runners-up of the 2024 Wushu Junior World Championship at Brunei Darussalam on September 25-29, 2024, were showered with a bonus of IDR 710 million.

The appreciation was given directly by the General Chairperson of the Indonesian Wushu Executive Board (PB WI), Airlangga Hartarto, at the Office of the Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, Central Jakarta, on Monday, September 30, 2024, evening WIB.

"This is an extraordinary achievement. Overall we bring home 29 medals. We are the highest medals in excess of China," Airlangga said in his remarks.

For athletes who get the first gold medal, they will get a bonus of Rp. 30 million. The same name will get an additional Rp. 25 million if they win a second gold medal.

As for the first silver medal-winning athlete, he received Rp. 20 million and an additional Rp. 10 million for the second silver. Meanwhile, the first bronze medal-winning athlete received Rp. 10 million and an additional Rp. 4 million for the second bronze medal.

Bonuses will also be received by four coaches accompanying the team, each receiving IDR 25 million. Meanwhile, managers, doctors, and masseurs each pocketed IDR 15 million.

Airlangga said that this achievement was very encouraging because wushu's sport was already included in the exhibition match at the 2026 Youth Olimpyc in Dakar and was being pushed for exhibition at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.

"I ask not only PB WI, but NOC Indonesia also encourages wushu to become an exhibition sport at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics," he said.

Indonesia came out as runners-up with a collection of 10 gold, 10 silver and nine bronze medals. Meanwhile, China, which defended the overall title, collected 13 gold, four silver and two bronze medals.

Iran then completed the top three by bringing home nine gold, 12 silver, and five bronze from the Wushu Junior World Championship which was attended by 498 participants from 50 countries.

This achievement at Brunei made Indonesia successfully maintain the achievements of 10 medals obtained from the previous 2022 edition of the Wushu Junior World Championship at Bumi Serpong Damai (BSD), Tengerang, Banten.

At that time, Indonesia closed the event in third place in the final standings of the medal. Two silver medals and five bronze medals won Indonesia's achievement at that time.
