Government Brings Good News, Electricity Tariffs Until December 2024 Will Not Increase

JAKARTA - The government has decided not to increase electricity rates for 13 groups of PT PLN (Persero) customers until December 2024.

This is regulated in the Regulation of the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Number 7 of 2024 concerning Electricity Tariffs Provided by PT PLN (Persero) that the adjustment of electricity tariffs for non-subsidized customers is carried out every 3 months referring to changes to the realization of macroeconomic parameters, namely the exchange rate, Indonesian Crude Price (ICP), inflation, and Reference Coal Price (HBA).

Macroeconomic parameters for the fourth quarter of 2024 use realization in May-July 2024, where the accumulated influence of macroeconomic change should lead to an increase in electricity rates.

"Based on the four parameters, electricity tariff adjustments for non-subsidized customers should have increased compared to tariffs in the third quarter of 2024. However, in order to maintain people's purchasing power and industrial competitiveness at this time, the Government has decided that electricity rates will not change or remain," said the Director General of Electricity at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, Jisman P. Hutajulu, Monday, September 30.

Furthermore, Jisman added, electricity rates for 24 subsidized groups of customers for social customers, poor households, small businesses, small industries, and micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) did not increase.

"The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources hopes that PT PLN (Persero) can continue to optimize operational efficiency and continue to increase the volume of electricity sales. Thus, the cost of providing electricity (BPP) per kWh can be maintained," he concluded.
