Senator Says Israel Used US-made Bombs Weighing 900 Kg In Attack That Killed Hassan Nasrallah

JAKARTA - US Senators said Israel used a bomb made by the country in an attack that killed Hezbollah Leader Hassan Nasrallah in Beirut, Lebanon last week.

Mark Kelly, chairman of the Senate Armed Forces Sub-Committee, said on Sunday Israel used the Mark 84 series bomb weighing 2,000 pounds (900 kg), in an interview with NBC.

The Navy veteran's statement marks America's first indication of what weapons have been used.

"We are seeing more use of guided ammunition, JDAM, and we are continuing to provide that weapon," Kelly said, using an abbreviation that stands for Joint Direct Attack Munitions.

"The 2,000-pound bomb used was a Mark 84 series bomb, to paralyze Nasrallah," he continued.

Earlier, the Israeli military said on Saturday it had killed Nasrallah in an attack on the group's central command headquarters on the southern outskirts of Beirut on Friday.

The militant group later acknowledged Nasrallah had died. His body was reported to have been found and evacuated from the ruins of the banguunan.

The Israeli military declined to comment on what weapons were used in the attack. Meanwhile, the Pentagon could not immediately be asked for comment.

It is known, JDAM turned an unguided standard bomb using a GPS fin and guide system into a guided weapon. The US itself is Israel's longtime ally and largest arms supplier.
