Turkey Enters BRICS, Promises Serious Contribution To Global Peace
JAKARTA - Spokesman for the Turkish National Assembly (parlemen) Numan Kurtulmus said his country's membership of BRICS would benefit the international community.
BRICK previously consisted of Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa in collaboration with each other in the economy and politics.
"The presence of Turkey at BRICS will indeed make a very serious contribution to global peace efforts. This is because Turkey is a country that simultaneously participates in many international cooperation formats," he said in an interview with Tass, Sunday, September 29.
Turkey is known to have been included in the ranks of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation Organization, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), the Organization of Turkish Countries, the Euro-Mediterania Partnership, NATO and the EU (EU) candidates.
"This country also wants to develop new alternative instruments for foreign policy," he said.
According to him, Turkey's entry into BRICS membership will enrich foreign policy instruments.
He added that Turkey's participation in the organization would encourage the strengthening of global peace under multipolar global systems.
"Turkey, which has a geostrategic position, is a bridge between the East and the West, has a cultural past and future prospects, has entered the process of transforming into a regional actor and has even become an actor who plays an efficient role in the global system. We consider BRICS as one of the important associations of future multipolar global systems for that reason and Turkey's entry to the BRICS will not limit Turkey but on the contrary, will expand its foreign political capabilities," said Kurtulmus.
