PALANGKA RAYA - Two minors who burned an empty house in Palangka Raya, Central Kalimantan, who were named suspects were threatened with 12 years in prison.

Head of Criminal Investigation Unit of the Palangka Raya Police, Kompol Ronny M Nababan, said that currently the suspect, who is 15 years old, who burned an empty house on Jalan Dr. Wahidin Sudirohusodo Gang Remaja, is already languishing in the local Police Headquarters detention center.

"Based on the information of the first suspect arrested by members of the Pahandut Police, he was desperate to burn an empty house, because he wanted to be recruited as a fire volunteer team. The suspect admitted that in order to become a volunteer he had provided a report quickly and accurately," said Ronny as quoted by ANTARA, Friday, September 27.

Meanwhile, the second suspect with the initials ABH, who is still a minor, is also already languishing in a detention center.

Based on his confession, before setting fire, the perpetrator bought two cigarettes at the shop. Then the suspect went straight to Jalan Batu Ampar which broke through Jalan Batu Suli V.

On the way, the suspect saw an empty barracks entering it. A moment later, he lit cigarettes using a yellow lighter. When smoking he saw plastic waste scattered, then collected and burned.

"The suspect also burned a green plastic chair. About 5 minutes later, the fire began to grow which scared the suspect and fled from the fire site," he explained.

"I appeal to the entire community to always increase awareness regarding the dangers of fires. Even if someone sees the movements of suspicious people in the housing complex, immediately report them to the nearest police station, to immediately follow up," said Ronny.
