Iranian Hackers Reportedly Charged With Hacking Of Donald Trump's Campaign

JAKARTA - The United States (US) Federal Prosecutor is reported to have filed charges against a number of hackers or hackers from Iran who are suspected of hacking several members of Donald Trump's presidential candidate campaign team.

Sources familiar with the investigation confirmed to CBS News that Iranian hackers were charged by the grand jury on Thursday, September 26.

The indictment was announced to the public on Friday, September 27. The cases and names of the defendants are not yet known because the indictment documents are still kept secret.

This news was first reported by ABC News and Politico.

Meanwhile, a spokesman for the US Department of Justice who was asked for confirmation from CBS News regarding this chose to remain silent. A spokesman for the Trump campaign team also did not respond.

After being announced to the public, the indictment will be the main focus of the federal government to combat alleged Iran's efforts to interfere in the 2024 US Presidential Election.

Federal officials have previously warned Iran was trying to undermine Trump's campaign.
