Thailand's Bad Floods Soak, More Than 100 Crocodiles Destroyed For Safety

JAKARTA - More than 100 adult crocodiles from the Crocodile Farm in Mueang District, Lamphun Province, northern Thailand were destroyed for public safety after severe flooding hit the country.

Citing Bernama, Thursday, September 26, floods have damaged agricultural and livestock land in various provinces in Thailand, particularly in the northeast and north.

Natthapark Kamkart, owner of the Intern Lamphun Crocodile Farm in Mueang District, said that flooding in recent days due to heavy rains has caused some of its livestock guard walls to collapse.

He m said it was with a heavy heart that he decided to destroy more than 100 adult crocodiles to prevent the wild animal from escaping. This decision follows an unrelieved flood that has the potential to knock down other points of the farm's guardrail.

"This year's rain was very heavy, and I had to make a quick decision," he said.

He acknowledged that this decision was tough because he had been raising and breeding crocodiles on his farm for more than 17 years.

With the estimated intensity of the rain getting higher, Natthapark is worried that all of its farm walls will collapse, causing serious risks for the local community.

Under normal circumstances, Natthapark says it never destroyed its adult crocodile. That's because it had a bad impact on its farm breeding operations over the coming years.

Meanwhile, Thailand's Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM) today issued flood and landslide warnings for 31 provinces in Thailand over the next 24 hours.
