Geely Expands Expansion To Vietnam, Ready To Build Vehicles In 2026

JAKARTA Geely Auto Group has further confirmed its expansion step by signing a joint venture in Vietnam, which will allow Geely's vehicle brand assembly in the country starting in 2026.

Reporting from CNevpost, Thursday, September 26, Geely collaborated with Vietnamese company Tasco, in a strategic partnership that includes the assembly and distribution of vehicles. This project is part of the CKD (Completely Knocked Down) scheme, where vehicles will be assembled in Vietnam using imported components. The factory has an initial production capacity of 75,000 units per year and is located in an area of 30 hectares.

In this agreement, Tasco holds the largest portion of investment with 64 percent, while Geely Auto Group owns 36 percent of the shares. The total investment value involved in this project is relatively significant, affirming the big ambitions of the two companies.

In addition to Geely brand vehicles, this joint venture will also assemble a model of the premium brand Lynk & Co. It is possible that other brands will also be assembled in the future. The plant is targeted to start operating in the first half of 2025, with the first shipment to consumers scheduled for early 2026. More than that, the factory will also play a role in vehicle exports to various other countries.

Not only focusing on production, Geely and Tasco also plan to attract more investors to strengthen component supply chains, develop automotive research and development centers in Southeast Asia, and establish automotive technology universities.

"The strategic partnership between Tasco and Geely at Thryptani Bryptnh is very timely. The Vietnamese car market has great potential, with a low level of vehicle ownership, which is 63 units per 1,000 people, far below Thailand which has reached more than 300 vehicles," said Ng
