December, Nusantara Airport In IKN Operates For The Public
JAKARTA - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) targets Nusantara Airport in the capital city of Nusantara (IKN), East Kalimantan (Kaltim) to officially operate for the public in December 2024. Airport status in IKN will change from VVIP to commercial.
"Later, when the Presidential Regulation has been signed, it will start (open to the public)," said Jokowi, uploaded by Youtub State Secretariat, Wednesday, September 25.
He said the airport is expected to accommodate the capacity of passengers departing and landing at 200,000.
Jokowi ordered the Minister of Transportation (Menhub) Budi Karya Sumadi to change the status of the airport in IKN from VVIP to commercial.
"I have ordered the Minister of Transportation to immediately convert it into a commercial airport, it can be used for Hajj for Umrah and for others," he said.

According to him, after functioning into a commercial airport, the passenger capacity of Nusantara Airport will increase to an estimated 7 million per year.
Jokowi made his first landing at IKN Airport on Tuesday. During the landing, Jokowi used the RJ-85 presidential plane which was greeted with a water salute procession, marking a historic moment in the airport's operations.
