Jakarta Film Week 2024 Brings Resonance Theme, Signs Of The Gema Of Indonesian Films Global
JAKARTA - The Jakarta Film Week (JFW) film festival will be back from 23-27 October 2024. With the theme Resonance, this fourth year's event has a number of new programs in the hope of capturing many audiences and film fans.
"If we can see the development of cinema from 2023, there are more than 50 national film titles that appear at foreign film festivals and many young filmmakers who produce film features that penetrate world film festivals such as Busan, Toronto, and so on," said Rina Damayanti as Festival Director (JFW) 2024.
This year, Jakarta Film Week 2024 will be held in three places, namely CGV Grand Indonesia, Taman Ismail Marzuki, and Hotel Grand Mercure. Online broadcasts were also held through the Vidio platform.
"JFW wants to be part of the echo that forms waves that strengthen our cinema even more visible," said Rina again.
The committee received submissions of 1132 films from 85 selected countries to 140 films from 55 countries and divided into several programs. They also held networking programs such as Producers' Lab, Festival Meeting, Pitching Forum, and Business Forum.
JFW 2024 will open with Adriyanto Dewo's latest film with Adhya Pictures entitled Goodbye, Goodbye. This film is played by Jerome Kurnia, Putri Marino, Jourdy Pranata, Lutesha, and Kiki Narendra. Production is carried out in South Korea.
The festival will close with the film Don't Cry Butterfly by Duong Dieu Linh which is the production of Vietnam, Singapore, the Philippines and Indonesia. This film is the only Asian film to win Venice Critics Week at the 2024 Venice Film Festival.
On Global Feature, several international films will air exclusively in Indonesia such as Paradise ofGREEs and I Saw The TV Glow. A series of local films such as Yohanna, Suzzanna: Queen of Black Science, and Love Never Timely also premiered at this festival.

As many as 100 short films from 55 countries aired on JFW 2024 that entered several programs such as animation, Herstory which was dedicated to women, Fantasea with fantasy themes, Family Time with family focuses, Made in Hong Kong, Dutch Bioscop, From the River to the Sea, Clermont-Ferrand curation, Cinema AI, and others.
Several international films such as Exhuma, Green Border, Favoriten, Dancing on the Edge of a Volcano to Jaehyun NCT - You Will Die in 6 Hours also aired at this festival.
JFW also made a tribute to the late Hendrick Gozali by showing the film Pledge Pocong: Lintang and Bayu as one of Indonesia's cinema-driven films.
This is the second time my film premieres at JFW. I am happy with Adhya's team being opening a film. The film is still planned to be released next year so it goes around the festival first. The festival is festive but that's what I expected," said Adriyanto Dewo as the director of the film See you, Goodbye.
Kristo Immanuel, a content creator and actor who becomes an ambassador for this festival, hopes that JFW as a film festival can reach more people.
"I learned a lot from film festivals," said Kristo Immanuel.
