Lebanon Was Hit By Chaos When Residents Flocked To Save Theirselves, Traffic Jams Up To 12 Hours

JAKARTA - Lebanon was hit by chaos as Israel continued its attack on Hezbollah.

Footage shared on social media showed long lines as people tried to flee southern Lebanon which had been targeted by Israeli intense bombings, more than any other region in the country headed for the capital Beirut.

Travel from southern Lebanon to Beirut usually takes at most 90 minutes.

But the massive traffic jam has extended the time to 12 hours or more, according to eyewitnesses who spoke to CNN.

The sight of people looking desperate was also seen at the border crossing between Lebanon and Syria, when hundreds of vehicles were seen filling the streets on the side of Lebanon.

The death toll from Israeli airstrikes targeting Lebanon's Hezbollah has now reached 558, including 50 children and 94 women.

"We are still at war and are still in an attack upheaval. Our responsibility is not over yet," said Lebanese Health Minister Firass Abiad as quoted by CNN, Tuesday, September 24.

Among those killed were four first aid officers, Abiad said. It was also reported that 14 ambulances and fire engines had been hit by Israeli troops.

In total, 1,835 people were injured as a result of the attack in just one day.

Israeli attacks also forced thousands of people to flee their homes, especially in southern Lebanon.
