India Announces Case Of Mpox Clade 1b From UAE Tourists In Kerala

JAKARTA - India announced that the case of a tourist mpox in Kerala state in the south came from the clade 1b variety. This marks the first case recorded in India of this new type.

Manisha Verma, a spokesman for the health ministry, confirmed the type of virus after the ANI news agency quoted an official source as saying the MPX case reported in the Malappuram Kerala district last week was a case of clause 1b.

The patient is a 38-year-old man who came from the United Arab Emirates, Kerala authorities said last week.
