China Open 2024: Jonathan Falls, Indonesia Without Representatives In Finals

JAKARTA Indonesia has no representatives in the final round of the China Open 2024 after the last hope of Jonatan Christie's men's singles was also eliminated from the semifinals of the tournament.

Jonathan's journey had to end after he lost two straight games 17-21 and 18-21 against host Weng Hong Yang on Saturday, September 21 evening WIB.

"Today I admit that the finish is not calm and the ball processing is a bit hesitant. It's not easy, it's very unfortunate, but this is a very valuable lesson," said Jonathan after the match.

Before the first game interval, Jonathan actually led his opponent twice by two points. However, the opponent then began to take over after scoring four consecutive points to lead 11-7 at the break.

Jonathan also had a three-point lead 18-15 in the second game after playing a tight match and falling up in the game. Unfortunately, the opponent made a comeback with six consecutive points.

"The small mistake in a match like this can change things. Maybe if you don't do it, the story can be different," said Jonathan.

The China Open is the second tournament Jonathan has played since appearing at the 2024 Paris Olympics. He previously appeared at the Hong Kong Open last week.

At that time, his steps were also stopped in the semifinals after losing to China's men's singles, Lei Lan Xi, in a tight three-game match.

Prior to the results obtained by Jonathan, Indonesia had lost representatives of the men's doubles Muhammad Shohibul Fikri/Daniel Marthin and mixed doubles Dejan Ferdinansyah/Gloria Emanuelle Widjaja.
