Slow! KPU Even Just Checked The Suspect Of Obscenity Inaugurated As A Member Of The Singkawang DPRD

JAKARTA - KPU chairman Mochammad Afifuddin will check the suspect in the case of sexual violence against a minor with the initials HA who was inaugurated as a member of the Singkawang DPRD, West Kalimantan, on Tuesday (17/9).

"We will check, we just got information related to Singkawang Regency," Afif said as quoted by ANTARA, Friday, September 20.

He said the KPU must carry out specific checks because the area coverage is very large.

"There are a lot of points related to areas, we have to do specific checks," he continued.

Meanwhile, Deputy Chairman of Commission III of the House of Representatives Prince Khairul Saleh encouraged the suspension of HA's position as a member of the DPRD until the legal process was completed. Moreover, the case that ensnared the suspect was not a minor matter and involved the credibility of the legislative body.

He assessed that the Singkawang DPRD could also process HA in terms of the code of ethics considering that the person concerned has now been appointed as a member of the council.

If there is an abuse of authority or information manipulation, firm action must be taken.

"In addition to the immoral case, an investigation can also be carried out regarding the suspect's presence at the inauguration because the person concerned admitted to being sick and had a medical certificate when he was absent from the police summons, but could attend the inauguration as a member of the DPRD," Pangeran said in his statement in Jakarta, Friday.

He also emphasized that the legislature does not have legal immunity for anyone involved in serious crimes, especially regarding crimes against children.

In this case, HA was charged with Article 81 in conjunction with Article 82 of Law (UU) Number 35 of 2014 concerning Child Protection with a minimum penalty of 5 years and a maximum of 15 years, plus one-third of the year because of community leaders. H was also charged with Law No. 12/2022 on the Crime of Sexual Violence (TPKS).
